Thai language

Thai has a big alphabet with symbols for 44 consonants (2 of them - obsolete) and 32 vovels or vovel combinations. But the consonants represent only 21 different sounds, the vovels are pronounced either short or long, consonants may have different sound and closing sound.

Consonants

Consonants are broken into 3 different classes of consonants with different tonal rules.

High class consonants

High class consonant + long vovel = rising tone.

Middle class consonants

Middle class consonants + long vovel () = flat tone.
Middle class consonants + some these short vovels: ำ, ไ, ใ, เ-า (au) = flat tone.

Low class consonants

Use ห and อ to influence tone.
